Fanshawe College, one of Ontario's largest educational institutions, sought a solution to enhance safety and accessibility on their campus. With over 43,000 students enrolled annually, the college needed a practical way to access mechanical units across two connected rooftops. Kee Safety was approached to provide a non-penetrating, easy-to-install platform allowing workers to service these units safely and efficiently. Fanshawe, a returning customer, opted for our rooftop access solution due to its versatility and ease of installation.
Fanshawe College needed to ensure safe access for its maintenance personnel across two rooftops where mechanical units were installed. The confined space at the rooftop entrance added to the project's complexity, as there was limited room to maneuver equipment for on-site construction. To prevent potential damage, the solution had to be installed without the need for welding and without penetrating the existing rooftop structures. Additionally, the platform had to span two roofs, creating a bridge that allowed workers to move between them easily.
Kee Safety designed and installed a rooftop crossover that spans two buildings, providing a safe, accessible route for maintenance personnel. The platform features a non-penetrating design, which means no damage to the rooftop and no welding was required during installation. This minimized the risk of complications during setup, which was particularly important given the confined space of the entranceway. The structure allowed for secure and efficient access to the second rooftop, significantly simplifying maintenance tasks. Also, the ballasted guardrails avoid any possible fall hazard around the roof edge.
The Kee Safety rooftop crossover and guardrail delivered numerous benefits to the customer:
Fanshawe College's decision to return to Kee Safety for a rooftop access solution highlights the effectiveness of our products in addressing safety and logistical challenges. The modular, non-penetrating design facilitated easier installation and provided seamless access between two rooftops, improving overall maintenance efficiency. By prioritizing safety, ease of use, and minimal disruption, Kee Safety's crossover solution continues to support the operational needs of large institutions like Fanshawe College, ensuring safe working environments for their personnel.
