Kee Step Mini Stepover: Safe Access for a Renewable Energy Leader

Project Overview

Kee Safety collaborated with Enlightened Clean Energy, a leading developer and design-build contractor specializing in renewable energy projects. The contractor required a swift and straightforward solution to protect cable trays and ensure worker safety throughout the life of the building. Kee Safety designed and implemented a mini stepover to facilitate safe passage for workers, addressing the unique challenges presented by the project located in Milton, Ontario.

Enlightened Clean Energy wanted to ensure the safe passage of workers and protect cable trays on their building roof.

The Challenge

The renewable energy contractor faced a significant challenge in maintaining the safety and integrity of cable trays and plant equipment in a high-traffic work environment. The client's existing walkway system posed a safety risk due to the presence of numerous cable trays and plant equipment. Workers needed to constantly step over or climb around these obstructions, increasing the potential for trips, falls, and injuries. A permanent modification to the walkways was not ideal, as the cable trays and equipment configurations could change over time. The installation required a durable and reliable solution that could be implemented quickly without disrupting ongoing operations. Ensuring the safety of workers while preserving the functionality and longevity of the infrastructure was paramount.

The Solution

To meet these requirements, Kee Safety designed a customized mini stepover system. This solution provided a safe and efficient way for workers to navigate over cable trays and other obstacles, preventing potential damage to the infrastructure. The mini stepover was engineered to be robust, easy to install, and capable of withstanding the rigours of a busy worksite. Its modular design allowed for quick deployment and adaptability to various site conditions.

The Benefits

The implementation of the mini stepover brought numerous benefits to the project:

  • Enhanced Safety: Workers could move safely over cable trays, reducing the risk of trips, falls, and equipment damage.
  • Durability: The stepover was built to last, ensuring ongoing protection for the cable trays and plant equipment.
  • Ease of Installation: The straightforward design allowed for rapid installation, minimizing disruption to the project timeline.
  • Cost-Effective: The mini stepover helped avoid costly repairs and downtime by preventing damage to critical infrastructure.
