Falling in love is a wonderful thing. Shakespeare wrote scores of sonnets about love (“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”), and his plays are replete with aspirations and professions of love (“Kiss me, Kate, we shall be married o’Sunday.”).
Falling on the job is horrible, especially when working at height. The Association of Workers’ Compensation Boards of Canada reported 65 workplace fatalities in 2023 due to falls to the same or lower level and more than 48,000 lost time claims resulting from a fall.
In Canada, workplace safety is a top priority, especially in industries where working at heights is a regular part of the job. Effective and compliant fall protection is essential, and for specialists involved in the installation and maintenance of these systems, becoming a certified fall protection installer is not just a career advantage—it’s a responsibility.
Under federal and provincial/territorial regulations, fall protection is required throughout Canada. Construction, maintenance, and repair workers often rely on lifeline and anchorage systems to stay safe as they perform their tasks. Improperly installed anchors and lifelines can lead to catastrophic failures, putting workers at serious risk. Certification ensures installers have the knowledge and hands-on skills to correctly install, inspect, and maintain these vital safety systems.
Anchors are literally the foundation of an “active” fall protection system that directly involves the worker using personal protective equipment (PPE). Anchor bolts used on rooftops and other high-risk areas must be installed to meet load requirements and safety standards.
Anchor Bolt Training & Testing is a two-day course that covers the responsibilities of system designers, installers, inspectors, and users and how to install, test, inspect, and re-test anchor devices. Training is also provided on proper documentation issued to the client (e.g., building or business owner) after installation or inspection.
The successful participant will learn and demonstrate:
Lifeline and track-based fall protection systems provide continuous travel restraint and fall arrest solutions for work-at-height challenges. Engineered horizontal lifelines are usually installed on rooftops but can be mounted to ceilings and other structures. Modular rigid rail systems offer a unique range of mounting options and are typically used for overhead vehicle maintenance and loading/unloading operations.
Kee Line and Kee Track Installation & Testing is a three-day course designed for professionals installing these systems on roofs, loading bays, and elevated work areas. Participants gain hands-on experience with these products and learn how to design and install systems that meet Canadian safety standards. This training is particularly valuable for engineers, safety managers, and installers working in the construction, manufacturing, and maintenance industries.
The successful participant will learn and demonstrate:
Graduates of the installation and testing programs for anchor bolts and Kee Line and Kee Track are certified for three years. They have a specialized skill set, expanded career opportunities, and a reputation for valued industry expertise.
Organizations with in-house certified installers ensure compliance, reduce liability, and improve the safety culture. Investing in proper training is a proactive step towards preventing accidents and creating a safer work environment.
Shakespeare studied Latin in grammar school, which likely instilled an appreciation for classical learning that helped him write for the ages. Today’s safety-conscious professionals can enroll in specialized training and certification to install anchor and lifeline systems, which will go a long way towards protecting the Canadian workforce.
